This video shows various stages of binary fission of a Peritrich. Division had already begun when I began filming, and it was about 7 minutes later that it achieved full separation. You’ll see at the 00:45 mark of this video that the peritrich undergoes a recoil action which completes its separation. From there it took several more minutes for the two organisms to take their final shape and fully begin filter feeding.
