Lacrymaria Entering and Exiting Its Resting State
Lacrymaria is a ciliate that can extend its neck many times the length of its body to search for food. As it frantically searches its environment, it burns a lot of energy. After short bursts of hunting (usually 5-15 minutes) Lacrymaria will revert to its resting state, pulling its neck and mouth inside its body. After a short rest, it returns to the hunt.
