Spirochetes From a Banana Tree Stump
Spirochetes are bacteria that can sometimes transmit dangerous disease, such as syphillis or lyme disease. Not to be confused with the shorter bacteria Spirella, which has a rigid spiral structure, Spirochetes have a very distinct chain-link appearance and movement.
This sample came from rain water collected inside a banana tree stump in our yard. Video captured using a 40X oil immersion objective, and setting the crop factor of my DSLR to 1.5X.
