Klongs, or canals, can be found throughout Thailand. About 2 miles from my home is a wide klong that is used for water taxi service. Klong water is filthy, and much sanitary care must be taken when collecting water samples, including rubber boots and gloves and a lot of disinfectant gel. It also helps to be able to hold your breath.

However, klong water is loaded with life. This short look in a single drop of this polluted and decaying environment reveals Rotifers, Peritrichs, Stentors and more.
