Reticulomyxa and Centropyxis aculeata

Reticulomyxa is one of a handful of naked Foraminifera, which live in the open as opposed to most Foraminifera that live in tests. Foraminifera differ from amoebae in the bidirectional streaming of their pseudopodia.

While observing Reticulomixa, the testate amoeba Centropyxis aculeata entered the scene, creating a beautiful close encounter.

Here is a focus stack of the Centropyxis aculeata after it came to a stop alongside the root of a freshwater surface plant.
